Social media influencer Kate Cassidy is navigating a new chapter in her life following the untimely death of her boyfriend, former One Direction star Liam Payne. The 25-year-old has returned to the United States, where her lifestyle is set to change dramatically, according to those close to her.
Sources revealed that during their relationship, Payne provided Cassidy with $10,000 a month for living expenses and allowed her access to his credit card, which often covered shopping sprees totaling around $25,000 monthly. She frequently shopped with Payne’s stylist, Adele Cany, whose services were also paid for by the late singer.
The couple, who started dating in late 2022, had recently moved into a five-bedroom rental home in Wellington, Florida. Tragically, Payne passed away in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The luxurious property, which the pair had only begun settling into, has since been listed for rent at $9,950 per month.
Adjusting to a New Reality
Cassidy was recently photographed leaving a London apartment where she had been staying since Payne’s death. She appeared somber as a friend helped her load luggage into a car for her trip back to the U.S.
“She has her own income through social media partnerships, so she’ll be okay,” a friend shared. “It’s not the lifestyle she had with Liam, but she’s not broke. She’s focusing on healing and moving forward.”
Despite Payne’s wealth and generosity, Cassidy has reportedly told friends she has no intention of claiming anything from his estate. “They weren’t married, and he has a son,” the source said, referring to Payne’s 7-year-old child, Bear, with singer Cheryl.
“Kate isn’t concerned about the money. Her sadness is about losing Liam, not financial setbacks. She’s planning to regroup and find a new home as she heals.”
A Somber Farewell
Cassidy flew to the UK after Payne’s passing to be with his family and attended his funeral at St. Mary’s Church in Buckinghamshire. She was accompanied by her close friend Damian Hurley, son of actress Elizabeth Hurley. Damian, who was also friends with Payne, paid tribute to the singer on social media, calling him “one of the sweetest men I’ve ever met.”
The investigation into Payne’s death continues in Argentina, where hotel staff members have been charged with supplying drugs, and a close friend has been named a person of interest. Payne’s family has enlisted an Argentinian lawyer to represent them in any legal proceedings.
