We all love Al Pacino. His performances in “The Godfather” and “Scarface” is just Legendary. Well, like all of us he’s got quite the story to share in his new memoir “Sonny Boy.” Turns out, Pacino had a pretty traumatic childhood experience that’s been haunting him for years.

What Happened?

A young Al Pacino, around 10 years old, decides to walk on a thin iron fence. Not the best idea, because he slips and falls, and the iron bar hits him right between the legs. Ouch! The pain was so intense he could barely walk home. Luckily, an older man found him groaning in the street and carried him to his aunt’s apartment. There, Pacino’s mom, aunt, and grandmother anxiously checked his injury while waiting for a doctor.

Pacino describes this as one of the most embarrassing and painful moments of his life.

“I lay there on the bed, with my pants completely down around my ankles as the three women in my life — my mother, my aunt, and my grandmother — poked and prodded at my penis in a semipanic,” Pacino writes.

“I thought, God, please take me now, as I heard them whispering things to one another as they conducted their inspection.”

“To this day I’m haunted by the thought of it,” he says.

Despite the trauma, everything remained intact, but the emotional scars have stayed with him. To this day, Pacino admits he’s still haunted by that memory.

The Impact on Al Pacino

This incident left a lasting mark on Pacino, shaping his perspective on life and resilience. In “Sonny Boy,” he reflects on how he seemed to cheat death regularly during his childhood, experiencing numerous mishaps and accidents. But this particular injury stands out as a defining moment he can’t forget.

Pacino’s memoir also delves into other painful memories, like the death of his mother from an accidental drug overdose and the passing of his grandfather, who was like a father to him. These experiences have added depth and complexity to Pacino’s character, both on and off the screen.
